Tips for Wrapping a Gift Basket

Large Gift Baskets

Gift baskets are lovely gifts that people love to get but wrapping them for shipment or just for giving can be difficult.  If you're going to be making a lot of gift baskets, such as wedding favors for holiday weddings, or for a corporate event, it might be worth buying or renting a professional shrink wrap machine that can shrink wrap gift baskets for you easily and quickly.  Many hobby stores carry all the supplies you need to shrink wrap gift baskets, and some rental facilities will rent them.

The wrapping of the gift basket depends on many factors like what items are in the basket and the shape of the basket. If your gift basket contains food items that don't need to be protected, like citrus fruits which are covered in a peel,  or baked goods which are in individual wrappers or nuts and candies that are pre-packaged then ribbons or other decorations can be considered sufficient wrapping for the basket.  If you want to add a layer of protection to make sure the items in the basket don't get bounced around or knocked out of the basket or if the contents need to be protected here are some tips for wrapping gift baskets:

Use cellophane - Clear or colored cellophane comes in giant rolls that you can get at any craft store or hobby store for very cheap.  A simple but glamorous way to wrap a gift basket is to put the basket down in the center of a large sheet of cellophane and bring the ends of the sheet up to the top of the basket. Tie the ends together with a length of ribbon and make a big bow. Your gift basket will stand out among other wrapped packages and it will protect the items in the basket.

Use Raffia - Raffia, a strong sea grass found in tropical climates, is the perfect decoration for a citrus fruit basket filled with exotic Honeybells, Clementines or other citrus fruits. Colored Raffia woven throughout the basket, used as filler, and wound around the top of the basket can turn any plain basket into an exotic  gift full of delicious citrus fruit.

Use decorated boxes - Instead of using hard to wrap baskets get some plain white boxes and make a gift tower. You can decorate the boxes using ink and ink stamps, stickers, paints, or pretty paper.  Decorated boxes tied together with ribbon create an expensive looking gift tower your friends and family will love.
