Grapefruit is known for having many health benefits, but some varieties of grapefruit can have a slightly bitter taste that people find off putting.  White grapefruit, which has a very thin skin and lots of juicy flesh, is one of the sweeter types of grapefruit and is very popular for breakfast.

The juice of the white grapefruit is often used in cooking, desserts, and in beverages.  Very often white grapefruit juice will be added to soda, mixed drinks, and punch to add a sweet taste and a kick of healthy Vitamin C.  White grapefruit can always be spotted by the pale flesh that gave it the name.  Pink, Ruby Red and other types of grapefruits also have their own distinctive hues.

Because white grapefruit is a bit sweeter than some of the other types of grapefruit it's a great snack, and it's often recommended for people who are trying to lose weight.  All grapefruits contain a naturally occurring element that has been shown to help the body metabolize fat more efficiently and burn it for fuel, leading to weight loss.

Grapefruit also has been proven to help lower cholesterol and even can help lower your risk for heart disease.  All citrus fruits have health benefits, but even popular citrus fruits like oranges, tangerines and Clementines aren't as healthy for you as grapefruit.

White grapefruit is available all year round, so adding it to your daily routine is a great idea. Make sure you eat at least one white grapefruit per day and you will quickly notice a lot of the health benefits that grapefruits are famous for. Be careful though, because grapefruits can interact with a number of different medications and may cause a bad drug interaction. If you're taking prescription medication always ask your doctor before you start adding grapefruit to your diet to be sure that you won't be at risk for a bad drug interaction.

If you find that even sweet grapefruits like the white grapefruit are too sour tasting for you a solution is to cook the grapefruit. Cooking a white grapefruit will get rid of all the tartness and leave it soft and very sweet. Add milk for a delicious and healthy sweet dessert that is also diabetic friendly and low calorie.  White grapefruit, along with the other types of grapefruit and citrus fruits like navel oranges are some of the healthiest foods that you can eat. Filled with fiber and healthy vitamins and minerals grapefruits should be a part of your daily diet.
