DIY Pear Face and Body Scrub by pittman davis

Pears aren’t just for the table. With a few pantry staples, a ripe pear becomes a soothing homemade scrub that leaves skin feeling soft, smooth, and refreshed.

It’s also a lovely way to use a pear that’s a little too ripe for snacking. Nothing goes to waste, and you get a simple spa moment at home.

Why Pears Make a Lovely Scrub

Ripe pears are naturally juicy and mash into a smooth, creamy base that blends easily with other ingredients. Paired with gentle exfoliants like oats or brown sugar, pear puree helps create a scrub that feels luxurious without being harsh.

And of course, it smells wonderful. A fresh pear scrub has a light, sweet fragrance that no store-bought product can quite match.

What Each Ingredient Brings

  • Pears: Juicy and naturally hydrating, with vitamin C and antioxidants plus a light, sweet fragrance.
  • Oats: Gentle exfoliation and a soothing feel, perfect for the face.
  • Brown sugar: Buffs away dry skin on elbows, knees, and heels.
  • Honey: Helps draw in moisture for soft, supple skin.
  • Coconut oil: Leaves skin feeling smooth and moisturized.

Making the Pear Puree

Start with one ripe Pittman & Davis Pear. Peel and core it, then mash it with a fork or blend until smooth.

One medium pear makes about ¾ cup of puree, plenty for both scrubs below. Spoon any extra into a smoothie or over yogurt.

Gentle Pear and Oat Face Scrub

Makes: 1 application

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons pear puree
  • 1 tablespoon old-fashioned oats, finely ground
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Directions

  1. Grind the oats into a fine powder in a blender or coffee grinder.
  2. In a small bowl or glass jar, stir together the pear puree, ground oats, and honey.
  3. Apply to a clean, damp face using light circular motions, avoiding the eye area.
  4. For a soothing mask, leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. Rinse with warm water and gently pat dry.

Brown Sugar Pear Body Scrub

Makes: About 1 cup

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup pear puree
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted (or olive or sweet almond oil)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, stir together the pear puree, brown sugar, oil, and honey until well combined.
  2. Spoon into a clean glass jar.
  3. In the shower, massage a small handful onto damp skin in circular motions, focusing on elbows, knees, and heels.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.

Tips for Best Results

  • Patch test first: Before using a new scrub, apply a small amount to your inner arm and wait 24 hours, especially if you have sensitive skin.
  • Use it fresh: Because this scrub is made with fresh fruit and no preservatives, it’s best used right away. Store any leftovers in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Watch your step: Oil can make the shower or tub floor slippery, so rinse the surface well after using the body scrub.
