Eat Grapefruit To Recover From Holiday Indulging

It's easy for people to overdo it during the holidays where there is so much great food everywhere and they are surrounded by treats that they don't get at any other time of the year. Rich food, super sweet desserts, and high calorie cocktails are delicious during the holidays but leave a painful reminder of the past in the form of a few extra pounds, fatigue, sluggishness, and some regret. This year start the new year off right by having plenty of healthy grapefruit and other citrus fruits on hand to help you get past the holiday indulgence hump and get back on a healthy diet.

One of the reasons why it's so hard for people to go back to their usual diet after a diet of holiday food is because over the course of the holidays the body quickly becomes used to high fat and high sugar foods. Refined sugar is addictive, and your body will start to crave it. Even though your body may crave the refined sugar it has trouble breaking down the refined sugar for nutrients, so most refined sugar that you eat ends up getting stored as fat. Then your body craves more sugar, so you eat another cookie, and that gets stored as fat when the body can't break down the sugars. That process repeats many times over and leads to weight gain, blood sugar spikes, and other unhealthy things.

Eating grapefruit will give your body the sweet taste that it craves and the sugar it needs but the sugars in fruit are natural sucrose which is easy for the body to break down. Since the body doesn't have any trouble turning fruit sugars into fuel there will be no additional fat stored and you won't have to deal with any blood sugar spikes. You can give your body what it's craving without doing it in an unhealthy way, which is the perfect way to break the addiction to refined sugar that can occur during the holidays. Once you have broken that addiction you can eat grapefruit and other citrus fruits like Clementines or Honeybells to give your body the sweetness it wants without ruining your new healthy diet. So this year get back to a healthy diet immediately after the holidays by having plenty of citrus fruit on hand.
